Sangita Kalanidhi for S.Sowmya
CHENNAI: As the city of Chennai gears up to usher in a fresh music season, it is also readying to elevate a largely talented S. Sowmya to the status of Sangita Kalanidhi. The prestigious Music Academy here has chosen her for the title this year (2019). She will preside over the 93rd annual conference of the Academy that is being held from December 12 to January 1, 2020. A student of Dr. S. Ramanathan and T. Mukta, Sowmya has a doctorate from the Madras University. She will be the youngest musician to conferred this prestigious title in recent times after Sanjay Subramaniam. Sangita Kala Acharya awards will go to vocalists Seetha Narayanan and M.S. Sheela. Nagaswaram player Vyasarpadi Kothandaraman and vocalist Rajkumar Bharathi will get the TTK awards. Aarti N. Rao will get the Musicologist Award. All awards will be conferred during the Sadas of the Academy on January 1. The Nritya Kalanidhi award for dance will be conferred on Priyadarshini Govind at the inauguration of the dance festival on January 3, 2020.

New Auditorium in Chennai
In the meanwhile, the city will have one more auditorium to facilitate hosting of art and cultural programmes. TEACH (R&D) MRT1 Auditorium has come up at Taramani. It is located at SPASTICS SOCIETY OF TAMIL NADU, CSIR Road, TARAMANI, CHENNAI - 600 113.
