Kshetra Sangeetham concert series
CHENNAI, January 20: Carnatic musician Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam, a disciple of Sangita Kala Acharya Shri S. Rajam, has conceived a unique concert series. Titled `Kshetra Sangeetham’, the concert series is organized in association with Narada Gana Sabha.

The `Kshetra Sangeetham’ concert series will comprise presentations about various aspects a kshetras – the temples and their uniqueness, the composers who have sung in praise of the kshetra and other aspects of musical significance. This will be followed by a music concert with a focus on different vaggeyakaras’ compositions on the kshetra. Some of the kshetras proposed to be covered are: Kanchipuram, Madurai, Srirangam, Tiruvarur, Sringeri, Chennai, Tirupati and Chidambaram.

The first `Kshetra Sangeetham’ episode will be on Kanchipuram. It will be held at 6 p.m. on January 31 at the Mini Hall of Narada Gana Sabha. Smt. Devaki Muthaiah will be the guest of honour. There will be a presentation on Kanchi by Dr. Sarada Nambi Arooran, eminent Tamil scholar and orator. Kalaimamani Dr. Sarada Nambi Arooran is a renowned Tamil scholar, actively spreading the glory of Tamil and Saivite literature across the globe. She belongs to the Maraimalai Adigalar family. She also holds the position of the State Information Commissioner.

There will be a vocal concert by Smt Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam. She will be accompanied on the violin by Dr. R. Hemalatha and on mridangam by Shri. B. Ganapathy Raman.
