Vaggeyakara Vaibhavam series to begin on
December 10
CHENNAI, December 4: The ‘Vaggeyakara Vaibhavam' and RTP (ragam, thanam and pallavi) Series 2009 will get under way here on December 10. It will last till December 14. The inaugural day will also see the release of a book titled ‘Palai Azhi' by Dr. B.M. Sundaram. The inaugural function will be held on December 10 at 5.30 p.m. at Gokhale Sastri Institute, ‘K.N. Shanmugasundaram Hall,' No.16, Karpagambal Nagar, Mylapore.

The series is organised by Chennai Fine Arts (Ph: 94440 76899; chitraveena@yahoo.com). Senior musician Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna will be the cheif guest. The guests of honour, Dr. T.S. Sridhar, IAS, Principal Secretary / Commissioner of Museums, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Gayathri Subramaniam, will receive the first copy of the book.

The event will be followed by the violin duet of T.N.Krishnan and Viji Krishnan Natarajan. The will be accompanied by Guruvayur Durai (mridangam) and T.V. Vasan (ghatam).

RTP Concerts:
Ragam Tanam Pallavi concerts will be held on all the days of the vaibhavam, between 5 p.m. and 6.25 p.m. The schedule is given below:

December 11: Niranjana Srinivasan
December 12: T.K. Ramachandran
December 13: G. Madhavan
December 14: Srividya Ramnath

On December 11 at 6.20 p.m., B.M. Sundaram will deliver a lecture on the compositions of K. Ponnayya Pillai and T. S. Sathyavathi will present a vocal concert of his songs from 6.45 to 8.30 p.m.

Once December 12, there will be a lecture on the works of Jayachamaraja Wodeyar (6.20 p.m.) . It will be followed M.S. Sheela's rendering of them. December 13 has been allotted for Dr. Prameela Gurumurthy's lecture on Pallavi Gopala Iyer (6.20 p.m.) and Mambalam Sisters Vijaylakshmi and Chitra will sing his compositions at 6.45 p.m.

Finally on December 14, Vaggeyakara Vaibhavam will feature Prof. T.R. Subramaniam, (6.20 p.m.), whose songs will be showcased by Radha Venkatachalam (6.45 p.m.).
