MONTGOMERYVILE, PA, February 3: Shruthilayam Academy held its 'Unity in Diversity' winter festival here on December 21 at the Bharatiya Cultural Centre.
Senator Stewart Greenleaf was the Chief Guest. The evening began with a Bharatnatyam performance by the eight-year-old Ashraya Ananthanarayanan. Ashraya is learning classical vocal and violin from her father Shri. Ponnani.S. Ananthanarayanan, a vocalist and violinist trained under Smt. Vasantha Kannan.
Ashraya Ananthanarayanan also received a leadership award from the Senator for her efforts in using her fine art talents to raise funds for several needy organisations in India. Tanmai Rao and Ashraya Ananthanarayanan were the recipients of the Shruthilayam Academy award during the event for their dedication to promote the rich Indian classical music and dance. Professional artistes Dr. Allyn Miner, Dr. Manohar and Soujanya Madhusudhan gave a special touch to the entire event. The evening also saw the staging of a drama by the students of the school. The event concluded with the unveiling of the SOHAM newsletter and a salutation to the Indian flag by the students of the Academy.
