Chennai hosts Namasankeerthana Tarangam festival
CHENNAI, December 10: A three-day mini music festival of namasankeerthana tarangams composed by Narayana Tirtha begins here from December 11. The festival will last till December 13.
The festival is organized by Thirupoonthuruthy Narayana Tirtha Swamigal Trust. The festival will be held at Narayani Ammal Kalyana Mandapam, Jet Nagar, First Cross Street, New No.2, Old No.9, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai 600 028.
The festival will begin with Veda Parayanam by Madurai Mani Sastrigal and his team at 3.45 p.m. followed by Namasankeerthana Bhajan by disciples of Thirupoonthuruthy V. Venkatesan at 4.30 p.m. on December11.
V. V. Krishna Rao, musicologist from Kakinada will speak on "The splendour of divine visionary experiences of Sri Narayana Tirtha’’ as revealed in Sri Krishna Leela Tarangini. A vocal concert by Mambalam Sisters - Chitra and Vijayalakshmi -will be held at 6.30 p.m. This will be followed by a rendering of some important Tarangams of Sri Narayana Tirtha in nadaswaram by Sheik Mahaboob Subhani and Kalisha Beevi at 8 p.m.
On December 12, there will be a vocal concert by Gayathri Venkatesan at 4.30 p.m. This will be followed by a violin duet by Dr. Lalitha and Nandini at 6.30 p.m. At 7.45 p.m., there will be Namasankeerthana Bhajan by O. S. Sundara Bhagavathar and his team.
On December 13, the programme will feature Unchavruthi / Radha Kalyanam by Udayaloor Brahmasri K. Kalyanarama Bhagavathar and team at 8.45 a.m. At 4.15 p.m., there will be a vocal concert by Varalakshmi Ananda Kumar. This will be followed by a concer of Akondy Sri Srinivasa Raja Rao at 5.15 p.m.
The festival will also see a dance-drama – 'Radha-Madhavam' by Dr. Ambika Kameshwar and her students. This will feature Narayana Tirtha’s Sri Krishna Leela Tarangini. It will be held at 6.30 p.m. Alamelu and Subburaman's musical discourse – Rasa Kridai – will take place thereafter.
