Hindu Friday Review Fest to begin on Nov. 14 with Girija Devi concert
CHENNAI, November 9: The fourth edition of The Hindu Friday Review November Festival will kick-start here on November 14. The festival will last till November 23. Like the previous editions, this time too the organizers have lined up an array of musicians from within and outside India, representing diverse genres - classical, jazz, folk and what not. The Friday Review Fest will commence on November 14 with a grand music recital by the queen of thumri Girija Devi, the legendary doyenne of the Benares gharana. The next day will see a sitar recital by Shujaat Husain Khan. He is considered the torch bearer of the gayaki ang or vocal style, evolved by his father, sitar maestro Vilayat Khan. The festival will also feature a group of musicians from Chennai - Shrinivas, Anuradha Sriram, Naresh Iyer and Chinmayi. They will present evergreen melodies from Hindi cinema. The festival will see Carnatic vocal singers Bombay Jayashri and T. M. Krishna come together to present a jugabandhi of an unusual kind.
