Nityashree, Sudha Raghunathan, T.N. Krishnan, S. Rajam and Gayathri Venkataraghavan to be honoured in Season 2008

CHENNAI, October 25: Even as the music season is fast approaching, the Sabhas here have come out with their lists of awardees for 2008. The Nungambakkam Cultural Academy (NCA) Trust will confer on vocalist Nityashree Mahadevan the title ‘Kala Sironmani’. Dancer Rajeswari Sainath will get the title `Nrithya Kala Sironmani.’ The NCA Excellence Award goes to Mala Ramadorai (Hindustani music) and Kousalya Sivakuamr (musical discource).

The Mylapore Fine Arts Club will honour vocalist Sudha Ragunathan with the title `Sangitha Kala Nipuna’ on the inaugural day of its 57th art festival, beginning on December 13

Kartik Fine Arts will confer the title "Isai Peroli’’ on vocalist Gayathri Venkataraghavan, 'Nadanamamani' on dancer Divya Kasturi, 'Tamil Isai Vendar' on Prof. T. N. Krishnan, 'Natya Chudar' on Bavya Balasubramanin and Lavanya Raghuraman and 'Isai Chudar' on Prasanna Venkataraman. Young Kuldeep Pai is chosen for the D K Pattammal award.The Indian Fine Arts Society will honour musicologist S. Rajam with the title 'Sangita Kalasikhamani'.

The Music Academy, it may be recalled, had already announced that it would honour clarinet maestro A.K.C. Natarajan with the title `Sangitha Kalanidhi’ during the ensuing music season. Bharat Kalachar had announced that it would honour senior vocalist R.K. Srikantan with the title `Gnana Kala Bharathi’ and Singer K.J. Yesudas with the title `Viswa Kala Bharathi’. It had also said that it would honour senior Carnatic vocalist Parassala B. Ponnammal with the title `Acharya Kala Bharathi’.
