BOSTON, October 24: The Carnatic and Hindustani music teachers in the Boston region have come together to organize a unique fusion concert. This fund-raising concert will also mark the inauguration of the expansion project of the Lakshmi temple here.
The Bostan teachers have organized `Swaramala’, a Carnatic, Hindustani and fusion concert, on November 9 between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. The venue of the concert will be Ashland High School, 65 East Union Street, Ashland, MA 01721.
Vocalists Tara Bangalore, Geeta Murali, Aparna Balaji, Bhuvana Ganesh and Padmavalli Bhamidipati; veena artistes Durga Krishnan, Revathy Ramaswamy and Ram Naidu; violin players Tara Bangalore, K.V.S. Vinay and Surya Sundarajan; mridangists Pravin Sitaram, Mahalingam Santhanakrishnan and Gaurishankar Chandrasekhar; and dolak & kanjeera artist Gaurishankar Chandrasekhar are among the Carnatic musicians listed to take part in the concert.
For the Hindustani style, the programme will figure vocalists Shuchita Rao, Swati Panda, Pradeep Shukla, Warren Senders and Preeti Chakravarthi; sitar artiste Michael Siegell; harmonium players Christopher Pereji and Preeti Chakravarthi; keyboard player Preeti Chakravarthi; flautist Suresh Mathur; tabla players Akshay Navaladi and Christopher Pereji; and soprano saxophone artiste Phil Scarff.
Phil Kaplan & his Bangalore group (Slide Guitar & other instruments) and Marc Rossi & his Krishnarasi group (Jazz Keyboard & other instruments) will also figure the event.
