CHENNAI, September 15: Vocalist Sudha Raghunathan and the trustees of Samudhaaya Foundation handed over a cheque for Rs.25 lakhs towards the heart surgeries for 30 under-privileged children at a function organized recently at Narada Gana Sabha here. They also handed over another cheque of Rs. 5 lakhs to
Sri Arunodayam.
The cheques were received by Dr. K.R. Balakrishnan, Professor and Head of Cardio vascular Surgery, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital, and Shri Iyyappan, Founder Trustee, Sri Arunodayam, respectively.
The donations were handed over in the presence of Mr. S.M. Krishna, MP.
Mr. M. Murali, Chairman of Sri Krishna Sweets, and Mr. A. Natarajan, former Director of Doordarshan, were also present on the occasion. The contributions for this noble cause came from the rasikas, friends and well wishers of Sudha Raghunathan.
In his speech, Mr. Krishna showered accolades on Sudha Ragunathan and commended her efforts. Samudhaaya Foundation, he said, was a torchbearer, playing a vital role in projects relating to healthcare.
The Samudhaaya Foundation also gave away the Saadhana Award of Excellence to child prodigy Lavinashree. The Award was given in recognition of her achievements as the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). She was also bestowed with the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, 2006, for her exceptional ability in reciting the 1,330 couplets of Thirukural. This was conferred by the Government of India.
