CHENNAI, June 27: Senior ghatam artiste T.H. Vikku Vinayakram
has been chosen for the inaugural Yagnaraman Life Time Achievement
Award. The Award has been instituted by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha
in memory of the late R. Yagnaraman, General-Secretary. Yagnaraman
had held the post of General-Secretary of the Sabha from 1956
to 2007.
The Sabha is also planning to organize a music festival. The festival will commence on June 30 and last till July 6. The highlight of the festival will be `Sapthaakshara,'' a music ensemble by Vinayakram.
The Sabha has selected vocalist Saketharaman and dancers Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy (Odissi) for Yagnaraman Award for Excellence for 2008.
The Life Time Achievement Award carries a gold medallion, a citation and a purse of Rs.50,000. The Sabha has decided to present this Award every year to a senior musician.
The Exellence Award carries a gold medallion, a citation and a cash prize of Rs.15,000. This will be presented every year to a meritorious young artiste.
