CHENNAI: Vidwan Shri Nagai R. Muralidharan will be the recipient of this year’s Maharajapuram Santhanam Memorial Award. The Award, instituted by the Maharajapuram Santhanam Foundation, will be presented to him at a function here on August 29. The function will be held at 6.15 p.m. The venue will be: P. Obul Reddy Hall, Vani Mahal, Chennai 17.

The Award carries a cash prize of Rs.10000, a gold medal and a citation. The "Meritorious Award for achievements”, carrying a cash prize of Rs. 2000, citation and a memento, will go to Vidwan Shertalai Dr. K.N. Ranganatha Sharma (vocal) and Vidwan Shertalai Shri. R. Ananthakrishnan (mridangam) and Vidwan Shri. V. Suresh (ghatam). Vidwan Madurai Shri G.S. Mani will preside over the function and present the awards.

Kalaimamani Vidwan Sikkil Shri. R. Bhaskaran and Vidwan Shri Sanjay Subramaniam will felicitate the awardees and recall the memories of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam.

The award presentation function will be preceded by a vocal recital at 4.15 p.m. by Shertalai Dr. K.N. Ranganatha Sharma. He will be accompanied by Parur Shri M.A. Sundaresan on the violin, Shertalai Shri R. Ananthakrishnan on the mridangam and Shri V. Suresh on the ghatam.
